About

Brooke Broussard’s life began where the Pecan Island marsh meets the Gulf of Mexico, and she now seeks to explore the furthest reaches of Acadiana through its art. Based in Vermilion Parish still (and likely forever), Lafayette serves as the cultural metro-hub of her French Louisiana. She has engaged in community reporting, feature writing, and cultural narration for over 20 years as a writer. She currently specializes in writing for artists, and acting as a creative doula and dramaturg for those looking to expand and examine their voices.

Artist Statement

I am a writer. I write with and about artists and their art, with the intention of engaging readers of any level with the art. It’s important to me to present art and creativity in a way that empowers the average person to both appreciate the art and consider the possibility that they, also, are an artist. I am a dramaturg. I work with artists to develop their projects by acting as a catalyst, using my broad base of knowledge and resources to move the projects in ways that serve the subject, the artist, and the community. I consistently engage with my community and other communities, and I research constantly through books and intentional experiences to make myself a relevant and reliable resource for artists. I am an art doula. I make myself available at all hours to artists I work with to answer questions, ask questions, critique creative choices, read or write, and honestly engage with the work to ensure artistic integrity. I am a community-builder and creative place-maker. I live in a small town that many consider an “arts desert” where I work to instigate meaningful and excellent arts programming with community investment.
